This project was developed as part of my Product Design Course at Central Saint Martins in collaboration with Magnum Brand. The brief asked us to create a new brand and product to extend their range into more long lasting and high quality products.
Working back from the product, I developed Hyge. Hyge is a high quality stationery brand with twist. Each product is thought out to optimise the user experience. Sustainability, Long-Lasting and Design are keywords the brand is based upon.
The body of the pencil and the ruler are made out of light bead blasted and clear anodized recycled 6160 aluminium which is one of the most easily recyclable materials there is and is extremely long lasting at the same time. It's optimised for today’s on the go lifestyle, perfectly slides into a pocket or a bag, it’s always there when you need it! The mechanical pencil snaps into the ruler when not in use for a more convenient experience.
Something I found especially important when thinking of the items as a system was the fact they had to function extremely well in their own right and give the user an enhanced experience when together.
The ruler had to be a really good ruler and the mechanical pencil, a really good one and still work if you lost one part of the set.
So in that sense, the 2 items had to feel like they meant to live along side each-other but the way they fit together mustn’t be overly apparent because they mustn’t feel incomplete if half the set is lost.
